Make sure the Start menu option is selected, and click the Customize
button. From the E-mail link list, pick the email program you want
to use. (See below if your favorite program or web site isn??™t in the list.)
But changing the Start menu entry doesn??™t affect the default email program,
the one that opens when you send a file from an application or click a
mailto: link in a web page. In Control Panel, open Default Programs, and
then click the Set program access and computer defaults link. In the window
that appears, choose the Custom option, and then click the little doublearrow
icon on the right side to expand the category. In the Choose a default
e-mail program section, select your favorite email program.
If your program doesn??™t appear in the Set Program Access
and Computer Defaults window, but the Use my current email
program entry is selected, your favorite email program
may already be set as the default, despite the fact that it isn??™t
mentioned by name here. To test it, open the Start menu, and
in the Search box, type mailto:test and see what happens.
If your favorite email reader isn??™t showing up in either of the aforementioned
lists, it doesn??™t mean that Microsoft specifically excluded it. (Of course, neither
did Microsoft make it easy to browse for a new entry, but that??™s a different
story.) Rather, it simply means that your application or web site isn??™t
properly registered with Windows.

The easy way to fix the problem is to check the software publisher??™s web
site for an update and get it if there is one, and then reinstall your email
application.
