4. Now that you??™ve unlocked the key, highlight it and then double-click
the (Default) value in the right pane.
5. Type (or paste) the full path and filename of the icon you want to use,
followed by a comma and a zero:
c:\icons\maeby.ico,0
6. Click OK and then close the Registry Editor. If the change doesn??™t take
effect immediately, restart Windows.
See Chapter 3 for more information on file types, including ways to lock
your changes so you won??™t have to do this again.
Live with Firefox in an IE World
Ever found a web site that won??™t let you in because you??™re using Firefox or
some other browser instead of Internet Explorer? The problem is the user
agent string, a text ???signature??? your browser sends to every web site you
visit that identifies the browser name and version, and even the operating
system version you??™re using. For example, the user agent string for Internet
Explorer 7.0 on the Windows Vista Ultimate edition looks like this:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727;
Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506; Tablet PC 2.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
On the other hand, Firefox 2.0 looks like this to web sites you visit:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725
Firefox/2.0.0.6
If you use Firefox (or any non-IE browser, for that matter), you??™ll occasionally
encounter a web site that won??™t cooperate. The problem is usually caused
either by lazy developers who haven??™t made their web sites standardscompliant,
or corporate licensing restrictions that forbid developers from supporting
any non-Microsoft products.
