Maintaining the concept of disaster recovery planning as part of your job description
is the key to its success. Large DR/BC projects often fail or become outdated by the time
they are implemented. The job-role approach implies small, iterative steps, hopefully
ensuring that at least some action will be taken in a timely manner.
Finally, it is your responsibility to ensure not only the participation of the rest of the
business, but a true understanding of what is being done. This may be an unfair requirement,
but someone needs to begin building a bridge between technology and business.
It might as well start with you.
CHAPTER 12 n REALISTIC DISASTER RECOVERY PLANNING 319
SQL Server 2008
Considerations
At the time of this writing, SQL Server 2008 is well into the CTP process. The goal with
the CTP process is to expose only features that are considered near completion??”no beta
features with significant issues. This means that we won??™t know everything about what
the final product will include until the release to manufacturing (RTM), which is the official
release.
This also means that by the time you read this appendix, chances are it will be
slightly out of date.
