"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

I refer to this tendency as ???banging the gong.???
Description of the Roadblock
I??™ve learned this the hard way: if you walk around essentially banging the gong??”that is,
doom-saying and ignoring any internal delicacies??”you will alienate everyone with
whom you need to work, ensuring your failure. When encountering extremely difficult
infrastructures, I have used this noise-making approach. While it got things moving, it
did not endear me to anyone. Still, I was happy in that I accomplished something positive,
even if it meant losing future work with an existing client.
Techniques to Remove This Roadblock
As a consultant, I could walk away with some level of satisfaction, but if you bang the
gong in your organization, you??™ll have to live with the consequences. (Get used to eating
by yourself in the cafeteria.)
A better approach to a problematic environment (one that wasn??™t open to me in
my example) is to back off and try again. You can be persistent without being outright
annoying. Bring up the topic of disaster recovery planning often, but when met with
fierce resistance or mollifying apathy, stop.
