James Luetkehoelter

"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

Establishing strategic allies within silos can be very
useful, but often more dramatic measures must be taken. (As I??™ve said before, don??™t be
crass enough to make a friend just for the purpose of establishing a line of communication;
it will come back to bite you.)
If the concept of a business liaison doesn??™t exist in your silo infrastructure, someone
will need to step up to the plate and take on that role (often in addition to whatever role
he normally plays). Someone will need to bridge the massive gap between technology
and business, as well as the individual gaps between IT/IS silos.
I won??™t pull punches here: this is extremely difficult and painful to accomplish. You??™ll
have to force people to talk to one another, or you??™ll have to have them all talk to you, and
you??™ll need to play the role of translator. It can be time-consuming, frustrating (no one
wants to leave their silo), and thankless, but it must be done.

Roadblock: Banging the Gong
There is one more barrier to discuss: trying too hard to work around the previous barriers.
