"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

Many managers or executives state, ???My door is always open,???
But that doesn??™t mean it is. That statement might just be a team-building tool. Here??™s a
good indicator of whether or not executive management is approachable: when you say
???hello??? or ???good morning??? on an elevator, do they respond in kind? Do they actually know
your name? If they don??™t, don??™t even consider approaching executive management to discuss
disaster recovery planning.
Unlike when meeting with your management, having piles of documentation in
hand when meeting with executive management will actually detract from the discussion.
Executive management usually has very little time to start with, so anything other
than a one-sheet example will be politely discarded (???I??™ll take a look at this later today???).
At this level, you really need to work on your pitch. You??™re going to get five minutes to
establish interest in the subject, and that??™s it. Be pithy.
Business Units
The quickest way to lose a business-unit audience is to jump into any sort of technical
jargon. Even if you use only one term early on, your audience may check out and not listen
to the rest of what you have to say.
