If you are, you??™ll need to
be careful. This is usually where things get blown well out of proportion, as the following
quotes demonstrate:
??? ???We??™ll be budgeting for a business continuity (BC) project next year.???
??? ???We just don??™t have the budget for that right now. Talk to me again in October next
year when we work on the yearly budget.???
??? ???How did you get in here? Get out of my office before I call security.???
Executive management likes to use faddish buzzronyms such as DR, high availability
(HA), and BC. These can be dangerous! Mentioning one of these abbreviations to
the wrong executive might turn the small, disaster recovery project that you have in
mind into a multimillion-dollar, multiyear project (which, as you might expect, will
probably fail).
Another issue with approaching executive management??”and I hope no one ever
encounters this problem??”is that they might even react in a hostile manner over your
having the audacity to schedule time with them. Tread carefully if you begin to receive
hostile vibes.
Business Units
This is by far the most important group when it comes to simply raising awareness.
