"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

Your Management
Hopefully, you only have one immediate manager. (Some employees have many direct
managers, but let??™s not go there for sanity??™s sake.) These are some direct quotes from
discussions I??™ve had in the past at people at the managerial level:
??? ???Great idea! Good job! I just need to run it past my boss.???
??? ???Great idea! Write up an official proposal and e-mail me.???
??? ???Great idea! Oh, by the way, everyone else has vacation next week, so you have
to carry the pager.???
??? ???Are you saying we don??™t do backups right now????
??? ???We already have an outside vendor who does that.???
??? ???I don??™t get it. What????
Not only will you get the usual ignorance or apathy, but you may just get the brushoff
as well. Be very, very wary of extremely enthusiastic responses followed by requests
for more information or a quick subject change. When that happens, it??™s a pretty good
indicator that there is no intention of following through with your recommendations.
CHAPTER 12 n REALISTIC DISASTER RECOVERY PLANNING 307
Executive Management
Hopefully you personally won??™t be in a position where you??™ll need to approach executive
management to discuss the need for disaster recovery planning.
