Read Shakespeare. There??™s a reason that The Bard is still one of the most respected
writers in history; he has a fantastic insight into human nature, which he can demonstrate in a word or two.
Shakespeare can be difficult to read, since every play is really a poem. If you prefer a more visual experience,
see the plays performed live. Even if you don??™t fully understand the dialog, you??™ll quickly understand
what is happening. Just don??™t walk around the office uttering things like, ???What fools these DBAs be!??? or
???All the world??™s a database, and all the people merely bits upon the disk.??? I can say from experience that
few appreciate it.
Overcoming Roadblocks
Whether working for a company directly, as a contractor, or as a consultant, most people
face the same problems. In addition to the different personality types that may pose a
problem, there are also institutional and logistical barriers to overcome. I??™ll describe
some of these barriers in the following subsections.
A word of warning: you won??™t always be successful in dealing with barriers, and at
times, you may face a situation without an apparent solution.
