"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

The key is to somehow establish quickly that the information hoarders??™ jobs are not
in jeopardy. It??™s useless to simply get someone from management to say, ???Your job is
not in jeopardy.??? In an age where the average worker will go through 15-20 jobs in his
or her lifetime, corporate loyalty to employees is a rare commodity.
CHAPTER 12 n REALISTIC DISASTER RECOVERY PLANNING 299
Get on the good side of information hoarders by involving them in whatever project
you??™re undertaking by giving them something new that they can hoard. It??™s unlikely
that you??™ll ever change the behavior of a true information hoarder, so instead, use it to
your advantage. Give these employees new, specific, and possibly even esoteric areas
of knowledge.
The Territorialist
I am the proud owner of two huge, well-trained German Shepherds. Most animals
have some sense of their territory. German Shepherds are the textbook definition of a
territorial animal. Like many breeds, an untrained German Shepherd can result in a
very unpredictable and potentially dangerous dog. My dogs understand what constitutes
their yard, their house, their cars, and their neighbors.
