Be sure everyone knows there??™s a plan and how to access the plan.
CHAPTER 11 n DISASTER RECOVERY PLANNING 276
The following list describes some of the key elements that your disaster recovery plan
should contain:
??? Risk matrix: Disaster recovery planning is an ongoing process, so you must have
a risk matrix that shows exactly what disasters you??™ve considered and those that
have recovery and mitigation plans.
??? Mitigation plan: Yes, you should document the actual steps of a mitigation plan.
However, you also need to include information about where that mitigation plan
is applicable.
??? Backup/recovery plan (response): Since we??™re specifically talking about SQL Server
disaster recovery, a response plan equates to a backup/recovery plan. You must
include the actual backup/recovery scheme, plus details on how it should be used
given any specific disaster (as listed in the risk matrix). The inclusion of examples
can be incredibly useful.
??? Contact: Commonly missed, a simple contact list of relevant individuals can make
the difference between total stoppage of work and a speedy return to normal operations.
