If you store it on the very server you??™re trying
to protect, you might as well not bother with it.
??? Establish an owner of the plan: Guess what? That probably means you. This is a
critical component, as you??™ll see in Chapter 12. A single person must ultimately be
responsible for maintaining the plan. That doesn??™t mean the owner does all of the
work or is the only one writing the plan, but the owner is necessary so that someone
is accountable.
??? Establish an authoritative, master copy: For most of you reading this, you??™ll have
a relatively large environment with multiple people working on or with the plan.
That means multiple copies of that plan. How likely is it that all the copies will be
in sync? Be explicit, and identify which copy is to be considered the authoritative
version of the document.
??? Make sure that everyone knows about the plan: I??™ve run into situations in which the
company had a disaster recovery plan but only two people knew about it. I??™ve also
run into situations in which I heard the phrase, ???I know it??™s around here somewhere???
used frequently.
