"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

In this chapter, I??™ll discuss the individual steps in the process of disaster recovery
planning, and I??™ll show you examples of actual disaster scenarios.
Putting It All Together
Dealing with technology is easy. Planning is not.
Planning for anything in the IS/IT world is deceptively complex, no matter what the
topic. Deciding not to invest time in planning can result in some extremely surprising
results. On the other hand, if you go to the other extreme and spend too much time planning,
you waste time and resources needed to carry out the actual work. Focusing on the
wrong subjects during the planning phase can lead to mass confusion when it comes to
actual implementation. Throw in the chaos that can surround planning meetings (much
more on this in Chapter 12), and the prospect of disaster recovery planning is enough to
keep you up at night.

To try to help you sleep better, I??™m going to propose an approach to disaster recovery
planning that you can apply to other situations as well. The approach I take is based on
the experiences I??™ve had, both positive and negative.
