Even if there is a hardware failure, your increased investment probably includes a
significant improvement in hardware support as well. I??™m still not sold on the virtualization
approach, but I believe it at least deserves the merit of evaluation rather than the
convenience of abject dismissal.
Network Issues
One of the most misunderstood of all hardware problems, network issues are often the
most difficult to troubleshoot, much less resolve. Networking has always been considered
a complex, almost mysterious subject. I recall early in my career doing support for Windows
3.1 and Windows 3.11. The latter included peer-to-peer networking, which we all
feared troubleshooting. Of course, the main problem was that we just didn??™t fully understand
how things worked. The following sections detail some critical networking topics

Latency vs. Bandwidth
When people start talking about network issues, the first thing that comes to mind is
