"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

There needs to be a snapshot file that corresponds
with each individual database file. If you have a large database with dozens of
files, creating a database snapshot is no trivial matter. The easiest way to deal with creating
a database snapshot of a multifile database is to begin by creating a script to recreate
the database. Figure 9-3 shows the menu involved in generating such a script.
Figure 9-3. Simply right-click on the database to bring up the scripting option.
Once you have a script to re-create your database, simply remove all of the elements
from the script that are unnecessary to specify when creating a snapshot. For example,
you won??™t need to specify any initial file size. Leave only the CREATE DATABASE statement
and the original file names. For the physical file names, simply rename them to use a .ss
extension.
CHAPTER 9 n DATABASE SNAPSHOTS 232
nNote When the CREATE DATABASE...AS SNAPSHOT OF command is issued, the source database is
???captured??? at that particular point in time, but uncommitted transactions are not included.
Once you??™ve created a database as a snapshot, you cannot drop, detach, or restore
the source database (or specific files within the database), but you can back it up normally.
