Even though you??™ve chosen a different port number (out of necessity), I highly recommend
using the same port number on all instances involved in mirroring. It makes
troubleshooting and monitoring for your network administrators much easier (and yes,
you??™ll need to work with them to successfully configure a database mirroring configuration
??”more on that in Chapter 10).
Finally, you need to configure a database mirroring endpoint for the witness
instance, as shown in Figure 8-20. Again, you??™re forced to use a different port, because
this instance is on the same computer.
Figure 8-20. After connecting to the instance that will act as the witness, you can again select
the database mirroring endpoint for that instance. Since this is the witness, this is really the
only configuration necessary for mirroring.
The endpoint you create for the witness instance will be used for all database mirroring
communication.
Next, you need to indicate how all three instances??”the principal, the mirror, and the
witness??”will communicate with each other, as shown in Figure 8-21.
