I recommend that you use WITH COPY_ONLY to make a full backup to a device, as well as
a log backup. Restore both the full backup and the log backup (which is essentially a taillog
backup), but don??™t recover the database. Now you??™re all set to begin configuring
database mirroring.
There are numerous ways to bring up the GUI for configuring mirroring. Figure 8-12
demonstrates how to go through the Tasks menu item.
CHAPTER 8 n DATABASE MIRRORING 212
Figure 8-12. When using the Tasks menu to access mirroring, be sure to right-click on the
database you??™d like mirrored.
Figure 8-13 demonstrates how to bring up the GUI by going to the properties for the
database. I generally hate including screenshots that simply show how to launch something,
but oddly enough, a number of clients have had difficulty setting up mirroring
intuitively.
Figure 8-13. Every database has a Mirroring option on the Properties screen.
nCaution The GUI has changed a bit from service pack to service pack??”nothing major, just subtle
changes. These screenshots are all based on SP2; future service packs may change the look a bit, but the
process remains the same.
