"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

Review plans with business partners to
ensure they still apply (especially if there??™s a change in management). There will
be times where you??™ll have to convince people to participate, but you??™re the last
line of defense for the data. Act that way. Think that way.
Summary
This is the last chapter concerning backup and recovery in isolation. BRPs are primarily
a response technique. True disaster recovery is the combination of preparing a response
and mitigating the risk of the disaster in the first place.
In the next four chapters, I??™ll discuss technologies that help you mitigate the
effects of various disaster scenarios. Some of those technologies are quite simple,
while others are complex and have some hidden sand traps that will surprise you if
you aren??™t prepared.
CHAPTER 5 n CREATING A BACKUP/RECOVERY PLAN 139
Maintaining a Warm Standby
Server via Log Shipping
Until now, I??™ve been focusing on response techniques for dealing with the aftermath of
a disaster. In this and the next three chapters, I??™ll focus on techniques for mitigating disaster
risks. Of course, each technique presents its own disaster scenario in which you
must reset the mitigation solution.
