Using filegroups to separate data files and indexes can speed the backup of the
actual data. It won??™t necessarily improve restore times, but you can arrange filegroups
in very creative ways to improve the backup or restore process.
The partial backup/piecemeal restore routine, with strategically configured filegroups,
allows you to bring the database online as each piece is being restored.
There are a number of creative ways to improve on these basic scenarios. Always
keep this one thing in mind: start with a simple plan, and then improve it. Never look
for the final solution in the first step.
