If you
follow these recommendations and review the existing BRP regularly, you??™ll need to perform
at least a portion of the review with the business unit. This requires someone??™s time.
As it??™s often said, time is money. It can become painfully apparent how true that saying
is once you experience frequent requests for time.
Key Technical Constraints for BRPs
Just as each business unit may have its own unique constraints when developing a
backup/recovery plan, different areas of IT (such as the network, the server, and application
development) can also create constraints on the backup and restore methods
available for use.
Ideally, you should try to identify the technical constraints before discussing the
constraints of the business unit. It??™s much easier to convince the business unit that a
given approach is technically impossible if you come to the table with information in
hand. Even if you??™re able to identify technical constraints before exploring business constraints,
you should always review technical constraints after identifying the needs of
the business unit as well (technical ?¤ business ?¤ technical).
