"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

That data lost is unidentifiable. The company could have no
record of an order ever being placed for customers who have order numbers and possibly
even billed credit cards. Those customers could be lost for good, and they??™d probably
influence others to avoid the retailer.
CHAPTER 5 n CREATING A BACKUP/RECOVERY PLAN 104
The one key to minimizing data loss is frequent transaction log backups. Without a
complete string of log backups, restoring to a point in time is impossible. Storing copies
of log backups in multiple locations is also a good idea, either by copying them directly
via a job step or by leveraging the MIRROR TO backup clause. Again, you must present a
best-case/worst-case scenario to the business unit, using real test data and remaining
as conservative as possible.
Cost
Cost is a critical constraint that??™s often overlooked or at least ignored until it becomes
visible. People often equate cost to price: how much money is this going to take? If you
take this approach, things can spiral out of control. If you focus solely on price, you??™ll
dramatically underestimate the effort involved.
