"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

In that scenario,
having the full-text catalogs included in the full backup would have made a lot of
executives happy.
The backup and restore process for a full-text index is no different than for a file,
filegroup, or full backup/restore. You can back up and restore only the full-text indexes
underlying the file (named in the pattern sysft_<>), the filegroup that the
catalog belongs to, or the entire database.
If you don??™t want to back up the full-text catalog, you??™ll have to do a filegroup backup
and specify all files except the full-text catalog pseudofile. If you perform a full backup,
the catalogs will get included automatically.
Files/Filegroups and Disaster Scenarios
File and filegroup backup/restore processing can greatly speed both backup operations
and recovery scenarios. A piecemeal restore in particular can greatly speed the perception
of a restored database in many??”but not all??”disaster situations. The following list
provides some examples of when file and filegroup backups can and can??™t help:
??? Environmental: An environmental failure ultimately means the restore of your
entire database, so file or filegroup backup scenarios are usually of no help.
