"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

A differential contains
a copy of every page that has changed since the last full backup, so without frequent
full backups, the differential backup could theoretically grow to nearly the size of a full
backup.
Log backups are usually the smallest of the three types, although sometimes a single
log backup can exceed a differential or even a full backup in size. In Full Recovery
mode, log backup sizes are fairly consistent with differential backups as long as the use
of the system is consistent. However, the log backup can grow significantly when large
amounts of data are added to or removed from the database.
THIRD-PARTY BACKUP TOOLS
A number of third-party tools can replace the native SQL Server backup, providing improvements such
as reduction of backup size, speed enhancements, and encryption. I have personally tested every such
product on the market, as long as it has a demo version to download. Of course, some are better than
others, but in general, most work as advertised. I even use one such product and recommend it to
some of my clients. Such products can be a wise investment given the needs of your specific environment.
