post actions when switching between recovery modes. I??™ll revisit changing recovery
modes in Chapter 5 when I show you how to begin building a cohesive backup/restore
strategy.

T-SQL Backup
Most people consider using T-SQL commands to be the ideal way to initiate and manage
database backups. Making backups involves a number of considerations. You??™ll want to
give thought to your naming conventions so that you can better keep track of which
backup is which. Then there is the rather obvious issue of where to place your backups.
You??™ll also want to consider the use of logical backup device definitions.
Naming Conventions
Whether you use a logical or explicit physical name for your location, you need to use a
naming convention that provides some level of information about the contents of the file
or device. Here are some of the conventions I??™ve run into over the years:
??? DatabaseName_BackupType (e.g., AdventureWorks_Full.bak): This is one of the most
common formats used.
