"Pro SQL Server Disaster Recovery"

4. Perform a full database backup.
Changing Recovery Modes
You can easily change between recovery modes by typing in this code:
ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks SET RECOVERY BULK_LOGGED
You can also change recovery modes from the administrative GUI. Figure 2-5 shows
the drop-down menu that you would use.
Figure 2-5. You can set each database to use either Full Recovery, Simple Recovery, or Bulk-
Logged Recovery.
You don??™t need to restart SQL Server for the change to take effect. Let me say that
again: you don??™t need to restart SQL Server for the change to take effect. Think about that
statement??”is this a good thing?
Well, it certainly is convenient; no downtime occurs when you change the recovery
mode. However, there are implications when you move from one mode to another. For
example, if you move from Simple Recovery to Full Recovery and simply set up transaction
log backups, those backups will be completely useless until a full or differential
backup occurs.Without a complete transaction history from a full or differential backup,
point-in-time recovery cannot occur.
