"Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT"

We have
seen how we can create Interactivity both within a single report and Drill-Down into
a separate report using Charts and passing through parameters. We have seen how
to aggregate data within a Chart to serve as a summary for the more detailed data.
We have opened the Dialog to edit properties of Charts, and seen how a few of the
properties affect the look and feel of Charts as well as the behavior.
Knowing how to navigate through the property Dialogs of the Chart Editor is
useful as Charts share many similar properties. Now, if you need to adjust the data
properties of your Chart, you should know that you can go into the Select Data tab in
the Chart Editor to make adjustments. If you need to make adjustments to the visual
elements, such as the legend, or if you want to change the font used within a Chart,
you should know that you can go into the Format Chart tab.
The concept of Interactivity is similar between Charts and regular text elements as
well as Hyperlinks in regular text or data elements, which are accessible through
the Hyperlink tab in the Property Editor (use the same Dialog as the Hyperlink
Options Dialog that we used in the Chart Editor to add in our jumps to our internal
bookmarks and our external drill-through report.)
In this chapter, we had a good introduction to some basic concepts of scripting in
the BIRT environment, when we worked with formatting our Date types.
