"Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT"

Drag over the EmployeeName field as one of
the Dimensions, and the ORDERDATE field as the other. Then drag over
TOTALPRICE as the Summary.
Chapter 5
[ 109 ]
7. When you drag over the ORDERDATE, you will get a separate Dialog
asking which levels of Grouping you want. As this is a DateTime field, you
can filter this from the year all the way down to the second. Select year
and month.
8. In the Summary, we can use any sort of Aggregation, such as Sum, Average,
Min, Max, and Count. We will keep this as SUM for this example.
Working with Data

9. Now that our Cube is created, we can create the Crosstab. From the Palette,
drag a Cross Tab component over to the Report Designer.
10. Using the Data Explorer, expand the area of the Cube to expose the Groups
and Summary Fields.
11. Drag the employeeDimension element over to the Cross Tab area that says
Drop data field(s) to define columns here.
Chapter 5
[ 111 ]
12. Drag dateDimension over to the rows section.
13. Currently the ORDERDATE Grouping just shows year. Because the month
is another level of this Group, we need to show it as well. Click on the down
arrow for the ORDERDATE grouping, and choose Show|Hide Group Levels.
14. On the next screen, check the month check box, and click OK.
15. Now, drag the totalPriceMeasure field over to the area that says Drop data
field(s) to be summarized here.
