"Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT"

I chose a folder under my Workspace for
this, so I extracted the file to C:\eclipse\birt_book_workspace\BIRT Book
Chapter 5\. This will create a folder called BirtSample under that folder. (For
more information on extracting an archive, consult the documentation for
your archive program.)
3. Create or open the report EmployeeReportCH5.rptDesign. Under the Data
Explorer tab, right-click on Data Sources, and select New Data Source.
From the drop-down list, select JDBC Data Source, and enter the name
dsDerbySampleDatabase.
4. Select org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver (Apache Derby Embedded
Driver) from the drop-down list for drivers.
5. Under Database URL, put in the following URL:
jdbc:derby:
In my case, I used the following URL:
jdbc:derby:C:/eclipse/birt_book_workspace/BIRT Book Chapter 5/
BirtSample
Be sure to use the forward-slashes in my example instead of back-slashes.
6. At this time, go ahead and click on the Manage Drivers button.

This brings up the Manage Drivers Dialog. This is where you would add new JDBC
drivers that are not already in BIRT, such as if you have an external Oracle, MySQL,
or MS SQL Server JDBC driver. You would do so by clicking on the Add button, and
navigating to the location with the driver.
1. Click on the Drivers tab.
