"Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT"

Chapter 4
[ 57 ]
2. The Edit Image Dialog pops up. From the Edit Image Dialog there are several
options for putting images in reports. You can put in a URL for a remote
image hosted on a Web server. You can add an Embedded image from your
local file system that will get stored in the report itself. If you have an image
stored in your resources (more on that later), you can add it from there. You
can also set a Dynamic image, which based on particular conditions can
change the image file; this is useful if you want to pass in a value for different
companies, and have different report headers be displayed. For this exercise,
keep the URI option highlighted, and enter the following URL: http://www.
eclipse.org/artwork/images/eclipse_bckgr_logo_fc_sm.jpg. Be sure
to put double quotes around the URL, otherwise you will get an error.
Visual Report Components

3. Hit OK. The report preview is illustrated as follows:
Using Text and Dynamic Text
Text components are very similar to Label components. They provide much more
flexibility than Labels in that they allow HTML formatting within the definition
for the text. They also allow for some special tags that will display data from a
JavaScript environment. It is even possible to put in images without using the BIRT
Image component and anchor tags.
