The gridlines are
your guide for composing the image to the Rule of Thirds.
10. Select the original image, and then choose Select | All.
11. Choose Edit | Copy to copy the image to the Clipboard.
12. Position your cursor in the new document, and then choose Edit | Paste. Photoshop
Elements pastes the image on a new layer.
13. Select the Move tool, and drag one of the corner handles. The layer resizing
parameters appear on the options bar, as shown below. Click the Constrain
Proportions check box, if it is not already selected.
14. Continue resizing and moving the layer. Your goal is to align an object with the
intersection of two grid lines.
TIP
When using the Move tool, you can nudge a layer by one
pixel with your keyboard arrow keys. Press SHIFT and an
arrow key to nudge the layer by 10 pixels.

15. Choose Layer | Flatten Layers, and then save the image in the desired file format.
The following image shows a photo that has been cropped and recomposed using this
technique. The setting sun was aligned to the intersection of two grid points to add
interest to the image.
