When you connect the cable from your camera to an available
USB port on your computer, you??™re ready to start transferring images. When
you transfer images in this manner, you are using camera battery power.
Thus, make sure the battery is fully charged before downloading the images.
Transferring images from your digital cameras is slower than when using a
card reader due to the fact that the camera??™s processor controls the transfer,
whereas the computer controls the transfer when
you use a card reader.
1. Start your computer and create a folder where you want to store the images.
2. Connect your camera to the USB cable supplied by your camera manufacturer.
3. Connect the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer, as shown here.
What happens after you connect the camera depends on the operating system you
use. Windows XP, for example, opens a dialog box with suggested actions. Choose
the option that enables you to open a folder to display the image files on your
memory card. If you??™re using a Macintosh, the default option will be to launch iPhoto
and open the images in that application. Clear this option if you??™re using Photoshop
Elements as your image-editing application.
