QUICKFACTS
PHOTOGRAPHING IN INCLEMENT
WEATHER
When the weather turns really foul, your best bet is
to stay inside. Digital cameras are expensive and
will quickly be ruined if subjected to moisture. Plus,
it can be downright dangerous to photograph when
a thunderstorm is nearby and the wind is howling.
However, when the rain slackens to a drizzle or ends
completely, you can capture some wonderful images.
If you take photographs at night after a rainstorm, the
glistening pavement will create great reflections of car
lights, streetlights, neon signs, and so on. When you
photograph night scenes during inclement weather, you??™ll
have to steady the camera with a tripod or use a high
ISO rating. The following image was photographed an
hour or so after a rainstorm abated and the streets were
almost dry. The camera was mounted on a tripod with the
auto-timer enabled.

Other times, you may be in a situation that calls for a reflector, but yours is at
home. What do you do? Improvise.
