Candlelight is another wonderful light
source for available-light photography.
The light from a candle is warm and
golden, much like the light you??™ll find
early in the morning or late in the
afternoon.
1. Dim or extinguish any lights in the room, and then mount your camera on a tripod.
2. Switch to aperture priority mode, and choose the widest aperture (smallest f-stop
number) available for your camera.
3. Seat your subject and place a lighted candle in front of him or her.
4. Switch to auto-timer mode.
5. Zoom in on your subject, and compose the picture.
6. Press the shutter button halfway to establish focus.
7. Press the shutter button fully and release. Your camera counts down and then takes
the picture.
Deal with Adverse Conditions
Just because there??™s rain on the horizon or it??™s nighttime, don??™t pack your camera
thinking you won??™t get a shot. If you??™re only a fair-weather daylight photographer,
you??™re missing some wonderful opportunities for compelling pictures. When the

If the resulting candlelight portrait shows heavy shadows
on the sides of your subject??™s face, take the picture
again, this time with two additional candles for side
lighting.
