2. If you??™re photographing a major event in a
stadium, choose your seat wisely. If you purchase
tickets for the event online or through the mail,
see if you can find the seating chart for the
stadium online. Alternatively, ask the event
promoters to mail you a seating chart. Whatever
type of event you attend, if possible, scope out
the venue ahead of time for the best photographic
vantage points.
3. If you are allowed to move freely from your seat
during the event, look for places where you can
photograph the event with an unobstructed view.
Photographing from a high vantage point with a
zoom lens can give you dramatic pictures. On
the other hand, if you can photograph an event at
the same level as the athletes and you can gain
an unobstructed view, you can create compelling
photographs.
4. Look for any vantage points where you can
capture dramatic photographs of the athletes,
such as the tunnel from which football players exit
the locker room.

8. If you??™re photographing a timed event, take several pictures of the action as the clock
winds down.
9. If you??™re photographing an event such as a triathlon, bicycle, or automobile race, take
several pictures as the athletes cross the finish line, as shown in Figure 5-5.
