If you want mountains in your picture and the
mountains lie to your east, you photograph at sunrise. If
you want the ocean in your picture and the ocean is to
your west, you photograph at sunset. If you??™re a morning
person, you photograph a scene that looks good at
sunrise; if you??™re a night owl, you photograph a scene
that looks good at sunset. When photographing sunrises
and sunsets, your camera may have a tendency to
underexpose the scene to compensate for the brightness
of the sun. Your camera may
have a mode for shooting
sunrises and sunsets that will
expose the scene correctly. If
not, overexpose the scene by
one or two f-stops to maintain
detail. If your camera has a
tendency to create a bright
halo when shooting directly
into the sun, hide the sun
behind a tree or building,
as shown in the photograph
here.
CAUTION
Never look directly at the sun through the viewfinder, as it
may damage your vision.
