After processing the image, save it as
a JPEG or TIFF file. Processing images captured in RAW format will be covered
in Chapter 7.
Capture Images Using
the RAW Format
When you capture images in RAW mode, you??™ll have to switch
to one of the creative modes: aperture mode, shutter mode, or
manual mode. Some cameras offer a program mode as well.
When you capture an image in RAW mode, your camera creates
two files: the image and a thumbnail of the image. Your camera
may also have the option to capture images in the RAW and JPEG
formats at the same time.
1. Turn the camera mode dial to select the desired creative shooting
mode.
2. From the camera menu image size section, choose the RAW format.
3. Capture the image.
4. Download the image to your computer.

CREATING HOMEMADE
SOFT-FOCUS FILTERS
With a bit of ingenuity, you can create your own filters.
For example, to create a soft-focus effect, take a pair of
white pantyhose, and cut out a section that??™s larger than
your lens. Cut a small hole in the center of the pantyhose
filter. This cut-out area will be in clear focus, while the
surrounding image will have a dreamy soft-focus look.
You can also take an inexpensive skylight filter, screw
it on the lens mount, and smear the outer perimeter of
the filter with a thin film of petroleum jelly.
