Use Selective
Focus
Another important decision you make
when taking a photograph is how
much of the scene will be in focus. If
you??™re photographing a landscape, you
want everything in the scene to be in
focus; when photographing a person
or group of people, you don??™t want the
background to distract from the subject
matter. If you have a camera capable of
capturing images in aperture priority
mode, you determine how much of the
scene is in apparent focus (known as
depth of field) by choosing the proper f-stop. If you have a pointand-
shoot camera, you can determine how much of the scene is in
focus by choosing the proper shooting mode. For more information

Determine the Depth of Field
1. Switch to aperture-priority shooting mode.
2. Analyze the scene through your camera??™s viewfinder or LCD viewer.
