4. Compose the scene through the camera viewfinder. With a digital SLR,
you??™re looking right through the lens, so what you see is what you get.
5. Press the shutter button halfway to achieve focus. The camera will flash a visual
warning in the viewfinder when focus has been achieved. Your camera may also beep
when focus is achieved.
6. Press the shutter button fully to take the picture. Soon you??™ll see the image on the
camera??™s LCD viewer.
Utilize All of Your Camera??™s Features
Whether you own the simplest point-and-shoot digital camera, a sophisticated
high-end digital camera, or a digital SLR, you??™ll get better pictures if you learn
to utilize all of your camera??™s features. Your camera has controls that you can
use to gain control of the picture-taking process??”for example, in difficult
lighting conditions, such as photographing a person on a brightly lit beach.
Your camera also has controls that determine image size and quality.
Set Image Size and Quality
1. Power up your camera.
2. Press the menu button.
3. Navigate to the menu item that determines image size and quality.
4. Select the desired image size and quality. Figure 2-4 shows the image size and quality
menu for a Canon digital SLR.
