"Digital Photography QuickSteps, 2nd Edition"

External storage devices work with most popular memory cards. You
copy the images from your memory card to the storage device, which is usually
a hard drive. There are also external storage devices that you can use to copy
your images to a CD or DVD. After you download the images to the portable
storage device, format the memory card and continue shooting. If you own two
memory cards, you can use one to continue shooting pictures while the portable
storage device is downloading your other memory card. After you return from
your trip, connect the pocket hard drive to your computer and download the
images.
CAUTION
If you purchase a generic external flash manufactured by
a third party, make sure it??™s compatible with your digital
camera. Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging your
camera??™s circuitry.
Figure 1-10: Portable hard drives enable you to store images when your
