All cameras have a feature that powers the camera down when it??™s not used for
a period of time. Most cameras come back to life when you press the shutter
button halfway. Notice how long it takes the camera to ???wake up.??? If it takes
more than a second, you may end up losing shots when action occurs that you
want to capture. This is especially important if you photograph sporting events.
Choose Digital Film
Your camera??™s removable storage media is the digital equivalent of film. Most
manufacturers include one removable storage media card with the camera,
which, when the card is full of images, you can download to your computer.
However, if you shoot lots of pictures when you travel and don??™t have access to
a computer, you??™ll need additional cards. And if your camera does ship with a
memory card, it??™s generally small and doesn??™t hold many images, especially if
you shoot images using the camera??™s highest resolution.
The size of the digital media and the image quality you choose determines
how many images you can store. If you own a high-end digital SLR that uses
CompactFlash media, you
may be able to benefit from the
new super-size storage devices
with capacities up to 16 GB.
