??? Will you be photographing in inclement conditions or while canoeing or
kayaking? If so, consider purchasing a camera that has a waterproof body. As of this
writing, Bushnell, Olympus, and Pentax offer digital cameras with waterproof bodies.
In fact, Pentax has a digital SLR with a waterproof body. Alternatively, you may be
able purchase a waterproof housing for your camera, which enables you to shoot
underwater.
??? Will you be photographing sporting events? If so, your camera should have a
sports shooting mode or allow you to select a shooting mode that gives you the option
of setting the shutter speed, which enables you to freeze action such as athletes
in motion. With a camera that enables you to manually set shutter speeds, another
option to shoot with a slower shutter speed and pan to capture compelling images of
fast-moving objects like race cars and motorcycles. The end result is a photograph
that shows sharp detail on the moving object with a blurred background to give the
viewer the sensation of speed.
??? Will you be photographing portraits of people? If so, your camera needs a portrait
mode.
