"Signal Processing for Wireless Communications"

This will surely have an impact on not only the UE but also the network architecture and signal processing
required to support such service. A particular application that would make use of MBMS is
called Mobile TV. Deploying a successful service implies that MBMS will support a large amount of
UEs. These resources should be efficiently used in order to not degrade other services within the same
frequency carrier [31].
A potential scenario is to have the MBMS services delivered on a separate carrier frequency than
the p-t-p transmissions. This allows UMTS operations to have flexibility to offer a variety of levels
of service. The separate carrier frequency means the MBMS transmission from all the NodeB transmission
will be on the same carrier frequency with some reasonable level of synchronization. This
deployment strategy is called single frequency network (SFN) or MBMS single frequency network
(MBMSFN).
In the SFN scenario signals coming from neighboring NodeBs will consist of valid multipaths to
be used by either the GRAKE or equalizer receiver. The service area can be made as large as that of
the RNC coverage area, thus providing the operator complete control over the content delivered over
the deployment zone.
