3G AND BEYOND DISCUSSION
In this chapter, we will discuss some evolutionary paths for the WCDMA 3G digital cellular system.
We will begin by discussing the principles of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)
since this has been chosen as the radio access technology of the Long-Term Evolution (LTE) for
Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The Mobile TV delivery mechanism is
presently being worked upon within the technical arena; the competition between dedicated single
frequency networks versus shared frequency services will be introduced in this chapter.
