We have considered
a 3-dB noise rise due to other users occupying the same channel. Also a UE noise figure of
7 dB was chosen for the calculations [45, 53, 54]. Various implementation losses, such as fixed
point implementation and power control rise, were lumped together. We have further assumed a
handoff gain of 1 dB.
Outdoors Case Study. For this outdoor scenario, we have assumed the NodeB is located outside.
We have assumed a noise rise of 3 dB due to other users and a handoff gain of 3 dB.
In comparing the above indoor and outdoor case studies, we purposely kept the Eb/Io to be approximately
5 dB for both scenarios. This, coupled with the other parameters such as Handoff gain,

building penetration loss, and various implementation and system losses, forces the indoor scenario
to support a 134-dB path loss versus a 143-dB path loss for the outdoor case.
