E-DPDCH is used to carry the E-DCH transport channel, and the E-DPCCH is used to carry the control
information. The enhanced DPCH channel will be used to send uplink packet data, for HSUPA services.
Based on certain downlink measurements, the UE will send appropriate packets on the uplink E-DPCH
channels. The number of channels will be discussed in the HSUPA section later in this chapter.
The last uplink DPCH to be discussed is HS-DPCCH; its subframe and time slot structure is provided
in Fig. 7.37.

The SF for HS-DPCCH is fixed at 256 and has a single slot format. The HS-DPCCH carries the
uplink feedback signaling related to the downlink transmission of HS-DSCH, supporting HSDPA services.
The uplink feedback signaling consists of Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ)
acknowledgment (ACK/NACK) and the Channel Quality Indication (CQI). The first part of the subframe
consists of the acknowledgment while the remaining consists of the CQI information.
The acknowledgment is used by the NodeB as a response to the demodulation of the downlink
HS-DSCH packet transmitted.
