services, and performance. All of these services will be offered with the hopes of increasing
their revenue.
??? For manufacturers, they would trade in their multiple point solution devices to get a single platform
(ideally) that can scale with the economy and provide longer product lifetimes. Moreover, they
allow for some concerted effort in the development process.
Continuing along these lines, we should mention the concept of Cognitive Radio [42]. Here, the
device not only has the ability to change its personality via a software change, but it can also sense
the available spectrum and then decide the best band to operate in and with what technology to use.
Presently, handsets are designed considering dual as well as quad band RF sections. As more frequency
