So an overview of the 3GPP continuous packet connectivity
(CPC) feature is provided to address certain UE dynamic behavior. A discussion of a canonical UE
architecture is compared and performance bottlenecks are highlighted to reveal certain strains placed

within the UE. The HSPA evolution (64QAM, 16QAM, MIMO, VoIP related, and so forth) is discussed
along with the additional requirements they bring.
Last and definitely not least, the appendices are provided to contain, as completely as possible, various
mathematical equations characterizing the BER performance for the modulation techniques discussed
herein. This is intended to provide the reader with a single source of reference when
considering the ideal performance.
Throughout the book I have used both theoretical and computer simulation results to explain the
relevant concepts. I hope you enjoy the material and find this book interesting.
