"Signal Processing for Wireless Communications"

An introduction of frequency flat
and frequency selective fading is presented. A concise discussion on propagation path loss of both
micro- and macro-cell deployments in various countries worldwide is provided. Moreover, both indoor
and outdoor delay spread measurements are summarized and presented in an easy to understand and
coherent fashion. A discussion of frequency dependency on channel model phenomenon (i.e., path loss,
shadowing, and so forth) is provided. Lastly, computer simulation models for the multipath fading
channel are given to support the wireless system designer in computer simulations.
Chapter 4 turns our attention to the receiver by presenting various demodulation techniques for
both coherent and noncoherent detection. This comparison will be made on the grounds of bit error
rate (BER) performance. II/4-DQPSK and GMSK were the two chosen exemplary modulation
schemes; however, with slight modifications, the detection techniques can be used for other modulation
schemes. An effort to unify the BER performance for each of the detectors chosen is given.
Chapter 5 presents topics on performance improvement. In many applications the resulting system
performance based on the above material is insufficient to provide a reliable communication
link.
